Who is Tour de BonTon
Hailing from the south of the Netherlands, Machiel’s fascination with people, culture, stories and ideas led him to study museology in Amsterdam. After years of working at museums, he started working at the Jewish Cultural Quarters, where he kicked off his career in tourism.
In 2019, Machiel got the opportunity to work on Tour de BonTon with Lotte, the co-owner of BonTon. This unique opportunity to break down stigma and open minds excited and challenged him. So when he was invited to be the co-owner of Tour de BonTon, it was a no-brainer. Why? Because to him, it’s not just a tourist attraction. It’s a chance to create conversations and help the public understand sex work and workers beyond the lens of the media — just like it did to him. And he warmly invites you to join the ride.

Ever wondered what goes on behind Amsterdam’s sex industry? This is your chance to experience it up close and personal. By night, BonTon is Amsterdam’s most exclusive strip club. By day, Tour de BonTon is your playground.
Spanning five floors in a classic canal house in the heart of Amsterdam, this tour takes you behind the scenes of the city’s most exclusive sex and strip club. Your tour guide is a former sex worker who shares the history of prostitution in the Netherlands as you enjoy a drink at the strip section. Then explore the building, learn about the tricks of the trade and how things work, strike a pose on the pole, and enter the rooms where business meets pleasure. In the end, you get to ask all your burning questions about sex work and hear personal stories from your guide. Learn about the ins and outs of the world’s oldest profession and open your mind at Tour De BonTon.

Our tour guide was Angel and honestly I could have listened to her story all day – and that’s my only complaint is that an hour just isn’t enough!! We were first introduced to him at an informal launch event of Who is Amsterdam Tours in 2018. From the get-go, he was open, curious and enthusiastic about what we do and stand for.
