Picture yourself in De Jordaan — the kind of neighbourhood that used to belong to craftsmen and singers, and now belongs to anyone with taste buds and feelings.
This self-guided food tour is your passport to all of it.
You wander at your own pace (read: stop whenever your stomach or camera tells you to), hit six authentic foodie spots, enjoy little discounts that feel like insider magic, and eat the kind of bites locals actually line up for.
It’s the easiest way to taste the real Amsterdam without being dragged around in a group where someone keeps asking for a bathroom stop.
Our tours regularly sell out year-round. To get your preferred dates and to avoid
missing out, we highly recommend booking as soon as possible.
Imagine strolling through narrow Jordaan streets where the houses lean a little, the locals chat through open windows, and the smell of something delicious follows you like a friendly ghost. This neighbourhood is postcard-pretty in a way that makes you mutter, “Okay, rude,” and then pull out your phone again anyway.
You stop for a sandwich so good it deserves its own TED Talk.
Then a butcher hands you a tasting that somehow tastes like Dutch heritage and happiness. A few steps later? Sweets that have been perfected over generations.
And don’t get me started on the fried fish — it’s basically a warm hug in crispy form. No guide. No group. No awkward waiting for that one person who reads signs out loud. Just you, your phone, and a route that leads you from one iconic bite to the next while whispering, “Look at you, living your best foodie life.”
By the end, you won’t just have visited the Jordaan — you’ll have eaten your way through its history, its charm, and its slightly mischievous Dutch soul.
It’s less a food tour, more a delicious love letter to Amsterdam… written in crumbs.

Each stop shows a different slice of Dutch flavour — savory, sweet and proudly local. From old-school craftsmanship to legendary bakeries, you’ll taste how Amsterdam has kept its culinary heart alive through generations.

Walk along its canals and hidden alleys while sampling local specialties from beloved shops and stalls. It’s a journey through stories and flavours woven into the fabric of Amsterdam life.

Start anytime between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM. Pause for photos, chat with locals or sit by the canal with your treats. Whether you finish in two hours or stretch it into an afternoon, it’s your foodie adventure.

Every stop is a small business with big heart — run by Amsterdammers who pour their soul into their craft. You’ll taste family recipes, decades of tradition and authentic Dutch hospitality.

Independent, affordable and fun — ideal for explorers who love freedom and food. Families love it too — kids pick their favourites and set the pace. A relaxed, delicious way to discover Amsterdam together.

Yes, definitely. Since the tour is included with your Go City Pass, it’s one of the most authentic, relaxed and flavour-packed ways to explore Amsterdam. You’ll wander through the beautiful Jordaan district and taste local favourites without needing to plan anything yourself.
Once you reserve your time slot with your Go City Pass, you’ll receive a PDF guide with stories, tips and Google Maps links. Simply follow the route, show the PDF at each stop and pay directly for whatever you choose to taste. There is no guide — it’s a flexible, self-paced food adventure.
Food is not included. Your Go City Pass gives you free access to the PDF guide, and you purchase tastings directly from the vendors. Most guests spend around 20–25 euros per person, depending on appetite. The great part is that you choose exactly what you want. Share portions, skip what you’re not in the mood for or go all in — it’s your call.
No. This is a self-guided experience. The PDF serves as your storyteller, navigator and neighbourhood insider. If you prefer someone walking with you, telling stories and ordering the food for you, a guided food tour may be a better match. If you enjoy freedom and exploring independently, this one is perfect.
Start between 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM for the best vendor availability. Most stops close around 5 PM, giving you enough time to enjoy all six locations.
Yes, you need mobile data to use Google Maps links and read the stories in your PDF guide.
Yes, you can. However, Sundays and Mondays are unavailable because one or more key vendors are closed. On Mondays you can still walk the neighbourhood and visit about 60% of the vendors, but not the full curated route with all tastings. On Sundays only one of the six vendors is open. Therefore we recommend doing the tour between Tuesday and Saturday, and on those days it is possible to split it over two or more days.
Vegetarians will be happy — four out of six stops offer vegetarian options. If you’re vegan or gluten-free, this tour is probably not ideal. Traditional Amsterdam snacks often rely heavily on butter, eggs and wheat. We want you to have the best experience, and this route simply isn’t designed around those dietary needs yet.
No, you don’t. But you do need to be comfortable taking small decisions along the way. That includes reading the PDF guide, using Google Maps to navigate and ordering your own tastings from each vendor. With a guided tour, someone would do all of this for you. Here, you take the lead — which is part of the fun.
Between 2 and 2.5 hours, depending on how long you linger, taste and explore. Walking time between stops is about 20–30 minutes in total.
The Jordaan route includes six curated stops:
• A classic Jordanese sandwich from a beloved neighbourhood spot
• A Dutch cheese tasting from a local shop
• A historic candy store for liquorice and traditional sweets
• A century-old butcher serving Dutch sausages
• One of Amsterdam’s best fish stalls for herring and kibbeling
• A cozy brown café for Dutch apple pie
It’s a delicious mix of sweet, savoury, classic and quirky — with the charm of the Jordaan all around you.
Groups of 1–8 people are ideal. Bigger groups may need to split up at times because our partners are small, family-run businesses.
You could, absolutely. But researching, comparing and choosing the right spots takes time — and online lists can be unreliable. We’ve done the work for you as locals who know exactly where to go. We skip the overhyped TikTok spots and include only family-run businesses trusted by Amsterdammers for generations.
We’ve also interviewed each vendor personally, so your PDF includes background stories about the food, the people and the neighbourhood that you won’t find online. On top of that, several stops offer smaller tasting portions or small discounts when you show the PDF. You get a curated route, insider knowledge and a meaningful experience — without the guesswork.
No problem. The stops are close together, and the food tastes just as good under an umbrella. Rain is part of the Amsterdam lifestyle — consider it extra atmosphere.
