Private Amsterdam Tulip & Windmill Tour by Car

You’re combining two world-famous Dutch icons in one private day—and both are  breathtaking in completely different ways. 

You’ll experience spectacular tulips and flower fields, a beautiful historic Dutch village and  an authentic windmill, while deliberately travelling beyond the busiest tourist locations. 

And you’re not settling for “less touristy but less impressive.” Quite the opposite. We take  you to places we believe are equally beautiful—and, in our personal opinion, sometimes  even more beautiful—where you have the space to actually enjoy what you’re seeing. It’s the Netherlands you’ve been picturing, experienced in a more private and authentic  way.

Let’s start by saying this: Keukenhof and Zaanse Schans are gorgeous. They’re famous for good reason. But they’re also two of the Netherlands’ best-known  tourist attractions, which means they can become extremely busy. 

We wanted to create a different way to experience the same Dutch magic. Instead of Keukenhof, we visit the Tulip Experience and surrounding flower-growing  region. Instead of Zaanse Schans, we visit De Rijp and Museum Windmill  Schermerhorn. 

These aren’t second-best alternatives. They’re beautiful destinations in their own right— and we believe they’re every bit as impressive, with the enormous advantage that you’re  experiencing them in a much quieter and more personal way. 

Having private transportation allows us to reach places that aren’t on every standard  coach-tour itinerary. 

So you’re still getting the complete Dutch experience: tulips, flower fields, a historic  village and a windmill. Just without following the crowds.

The Tulip Experience was created by a real Dutch tulip-growing family who wanted  visitors to understand the world behind the flowers. 

You’ll discover the story of Dutch tulips and the people who grow them before heading  into beautifully designed show gardens filled with tulips. 

And this part is important: the gardens were specifically created so visitors can actually  walk among the flowers and take those incredible tulip photographs without damaging a  farmer’s commercial crop. 

It’s beautifully done, highly experiential and ridiculously photogenic.

We’ll drive through the Dutch flower-growing region and actively look for the most  beautiful fields during your visit. Because different fields and varieties bloom at slightly 

different times, we’ll always scan the area and adapt where possible to find the best  displays. 

Which means the exact photo stops can change—and that’s part of the experience.

No—and there’s a very good reason. 

Commercial tulip fields are working farmland, and walking between the rows can damage  the flowers and bulbs. Entering them without permission is considered disrespectful to  the farmers whose livelihood depends on those crops. 

But don’t worry. You will absolutely get your walking-among-the-tulips moment. 

That’s exactly why we visit the Tulip Experience. The tulip farmers there have created  dedicated fields and show gardens where visitors are welcome to walk among the flowers  and take beautiful photographs.

This is a highly seasonal experience, available only from approximately the last week of  March until the first week of May. 

It’s a very short window, which is also what makes the experience so special. Because availability is limited, we recommend requesting your preferred date as early as  possible.

This tour only operates during the Dutch tulip season, and the Tulip Experience gives us a  dedicated location to experience the flowers in bloom. 

The exact appearance of the commercial fields we see along the way will naturally vary  throughout the season, as different varieties bloom at different times.

You’ll visit Museum Windmill Schermerhorn, an authentic historic windmill where you’ll  discover what Dutch windmills were actually built to do. 

You’ll learn about polders, water management and how windmills helped the Dutch  reclaim land from water—quite literally helping create the Netherlands beneath your feet.

Expect approximately 2,500 steps throughout the entire six-hour experience, spread  across the different stops. 

You’ll get out, explore, take photographs and experience each location before continuing  comfortably in your private vehicle. It’s designed to be relaxed and easy-going while still  allowing you to see an incredible amount in six hours.

The combination of private transportation, limited walking and a relaxed pace makes this  experience suitable for families, seniors and multigenerational groups. 

And because it’s completely private, there’s much more flexibility than you’d have on a  large group tour. 

Your tour includes your private guide and personal driver, transportation in a BMW,  Mercedes or equivalent premium vehicle, hotel pickup and drop-off in Amsterdam,  entrance to the Tulip Experience, entrance to Museum Windmill Schermerhorn, lunch,  bottled water, all entrance fees, booking fees and VAT. 

You don’t. 

Your guide and driver will pick you up directly from your hotel or accommodation in  Amsterdam at 7:30 AM. 

After approximately six hours of tulips, windmills and Dutch countryside, we’ll drop you  back in Amsterdam at around 1:30 PM. 

Because getting an early start is worth it. 

It allows us to head into the countryside before the busiest part of the day and make the  most of our six hours together. 

There’s another rather nice advantage: you’ll be back in Amsterdam at approximately  1:30 PM, with plenty of time left to enjoy the rest of your day.

This is a 100% private experience for up to seven guests. 

Pricing starts at €1,050 for one guest, with each additional guest costing €75. You’ll never be combined with another group.

The tour runs rain or shine. 

Dutch spring weather can change quickly, so we recommend dressing in layers and  bringing a raincoat or jacket. 

And because you’re travelling privately between the different locations in a BMW,  Mercedes or equivalent premium vehicle, you’ll have a comfortable place to retreat to  between stops. 

If you have the choice, we recommend exploring Amsterdam first. 

Think of it as getting the first chapter of the story. Understanding how Amsterdam  developed, became wealthy and learned to live with water will give you much more 

context when you head into the countryside and start discovering windmills, polders and  Dutch water management. 

You’ll recognise connections you probably wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. 

That said, don’t rearrange your entire trip for it. If tulip availability, museum tickets or other  plans mean the countryside comes first, that’s absolutely fine too. You’ll have a fantastic  experience either way.
